Mangopedia Personal Experience
Valencia Pride is a beautiful classic Florida mango with a very pleasant eating quality. The fruit is pretty much fiberless when eating the flesh, though there can be some fiber around the seed area.
The flavor is classic, sweet, and aromatic. Some areas of the fruit can be very sweet, while other parts can have a little tartness, but the tartness is pleasant rather than harsh. It is not sour in a way that makes the eating experience unpleasant; overall, the balance is enjoyable and the flavor is one of the reasons Valencia Pride remains such a strong backyard mango.
The 2026 sample measured 18 Brix. Two fruit observed for this tasting were about 1.5 pounds and 2 pounds, which fits the large-fruit category. Valencia Pride can get very large, and some fruit are reported to reach around 3 to 4 pounds under good conditions.
As a backyard tree, Valencia Pride is an excellent producer. It can produce heavily and is known for setting a lot of fruit. The tradeoff is tree size and vigor: this is a large, fast-growing tree and is not recommended for a small yard unless the grower is willing to prune it constantly. In local observations, some Valencia Pride trees become very large, while others can be kept manageable with regular pruning.
Disease resistance appears good overall from observation. Some fruit may show black spotting or markings depending on growing conditions, but the fruit itself can be very clean, especially in favorable South Florida coastal or east-side growing areas. Overall, Valencia Pride is a large, vigorous, heavy-producing mango with beautiful fruit and a strong classic Florida flavor.
