Sugarloaf

by | Aug 7, 2025 | Mango Cultivars

The Sugarloaf mango, also known as Zill E-4, originated in Florida from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach. It is believed to be an Edward seedling, with either ‘Gary’ or ‘Pettigrew’ as a possible pollen parent. This variety is celebrated for its unique flavor profile, often described as having prominent coconut and pineapple undertones. An interesting fact about the Sugarloaf mango is that it stays green even when ripe, which can be misleading for those unfamiliar with the variety, but it signals a delightful, fiberless fruit ready for consumption.
