Southern Blush

by | Aug 7, 2025 | Mango Cultivars

The ‘Southern Blush’ mango is a commercially recognized cultivar that originated in south Florida. It is believed to be a seedling of the ‘Eldon’ mango, discovered on the property of Laurence Zill in Boynton Beach. This mango earned its name due to the distinctive red blush that appears on its skin where it is exposed to the sun, even though the underlying ground color is yellow-orange. An interesting fact about the Southern Blush is that it was named for being one of the most southern planted mango varieties, and despite some reports of being disease-prone, it is still highly regarded for its large, sweet, and sometimes tart fruit with a firm texture.
