Otis

by | Aug 10, 2025 | Mango Cultivars

The ‘Otis’ mango is a newly recognized variety, originating from a store-bought tree whose initial variety was unknown. This unique mango took an exceptionally long time to fruit, approximately 15-20 years, with the original tree located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The fruit itself resembles the ‘Pickering’ mango in appearance. Its flavor profile is reminiscent of the ‘Valencia Pride’ but with a distinctly sweeter tone and no tartness when fully ripe, offering a classic mango taste. The ‘Otis’ mango has little to no fiber, and its fruit size ranges from medium to small. When ripe, it displays a golden yellow skin and a deep orange flesh. The mango was affectionately named after Otis Redding’s song ‘Sitting on the Dock of the Bay,’ as its delightful taste evokes a desire to simply relax and enjoy the moment.
