Kash

Kash is a new mango variety associated with Javier Travieso of Travieso Farms LLC in Hialeah, Florida. The original tree was reportedly planted in 1982 by Travieso’s grandfather and has grown into a very large mature mango tree.

The fruit is believed to possibly be a seedling of Haden because of its similar appearance, but this parentage has not been confirmed. More information is still being gathered about Kash’s flavor, season, production, disease resistance, and growth characteristics.

Mangopedia Personal Experience

In Mangopedia tasting notes, Kash was a very good eating mango. The first bite tested in the low 16 Brix range, but that reading did not match the perceived sweetness. After squeezing more juice and testing again, the mango measured 18.4 Brix, which better matched the flavor and sweetness on the palate.

The flavor was described as a very classy classic mango flavor. If compared to another mango, it was reminiscent of Glenn, but in some ways the classic mango flavor came through stronger than Glenn. The flavor was superior for a classic-style mango, with no resin and no off flavors.

While cutting the mango, some fiber could be heard or seen, but while eating there was no fiber stuck in the teeth and the eating texture felt essentially fiberless. The juice was especially good, suggesting Kash could be a strong juicing mango.

Kash had a slight tartness that added extra flavor without being too sour or overpowering. Overall, it was a very good tasting experience, a beautiful mango, and one that seems very much worth having around.
