In Mangopedia tasting, this Fruit Punch mango measured 24.2 Brix, which is an excellent sugar reading. The documented fruit was a decent large size, weighing about 1 lb 6.9 oz. It was not gigantic, but it was still a substantial mango and a variety worth considering for the yard.
The eating quality was very good, with strong sweetness, but the tartness was powerful enough that it made the fruit feel as if the Brix reading should have been lower than it actually was. For anyone who enjoys mangoes with a tangy edge, picking Fruit Punch a little before it fully tree-ripens may preserve more of that tart bite.
Near the skin, the flavor became strongly resinous, leaning medicinal and somewhat reminiscent of longan. The flesh itself was enjoyable, but this sample may have been picked a little too early. If it had ripened longer on the tree, the balance likely would have been even better and the variety may have been outstanding.
Based on this tasting, Fruit Punch is definitely a mango worth growing. The tree observed appeared compact enough to be a possible candidate for a smaller yard with proper pruning, while still looking vigorous. From what was visible, the tree also appeared clean and disease-free. Overall, this was a very delicious mango, just a bit on the tart side in this particular sample.
