Developed by Laurence Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida, this cultivar carries a personal touch, named in honor of his wife, Dorothy. While initially believed to be a ‘Carrie’ mango descendant, USDA pedigree analysis in 2005 revealed its likely connection to the ‘Zill’ mango lineage.

Physical Characteristics

These distinctive fruits present an oval to ovate shape, typically weighing just under a pound. Their ripened skin exhibits a yellow base with a subtle pinkish blush, adorned with characteristic speckles that have earned them the whimsical comparison to “speckled dragon eggs.”

Exceptional Flavor

The Dot mango’s reputation rests firmly on its outstanding taste profile. The fiberless, juicy flesh delivers a rich, syrupy sweetness balanced by gentle tartness and resinous notes. A distinctive citrus component, often likened to orange sherbet, adds complexity to its flavor spectrum.
