The mango season is off to an exciting start here in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida! As of today, many of my mango trees are beginning to set fruit after a flourishing bloom that started around December 2024, or possibly even earlier. Thankfully, this year has been free of powdery mildew so far, which is a huge relief. I’ve been proactively pressure washing the trees just in case, but I’ve noticed that even the trees around my neighborhood haven’t been affected by mildew. This gives me a lot of hope for a bountiful mango harvest this year!
The weather has been on the cooler side, but not extreme. We haven’t experienced any freezes or unusually harsh conditions. The coldest temperatures dropped to around 45°F, which is manageable. While some of the new leaves on my trees show slight signs of cold damage, the majority of the trees are looking healthy and thriving. Over the past week, we’ve had a little rain, breaking up what’s otherwise been a dry and cool winter.
As for my mango trees, almost all of them are flowering, except for a few exceptions. My top-worked trees, the Coconut Cream mango, and the Money Currency mango in a pot haven’t flowered yet. On the brighter side, my KYUHYUN mango in a pot is flowering, and I’m hopeful my Moon Coin (Mun Kun Si) tree will flower soon, so I can finally taste its fruit!
That’s the latest update for January 22, 2025. I’ll keep you all posted as the season progresses—here’s to what I hope will be an incredible year for mangoes! 🌱🥭
